G&F Painting is owned and run by Jeff Gibson and Alex Fish. When Timberline Painting closed in April 1994, we bought some equipment, visited a few builders, and decided to give it a shot together. That partnership became G&F Painting, and three decades later, we’re still showing up to job sites—not just to manage, but to paint.

How We Started

Jeff got his start while still in school, working summers and weekends at his father’s painting company in Fresno and started working full time after high school in 1978. Alex learned the trade in upstate New York starting in 1987. We met in Portland in the early ’90s and discovered we worked well together. Today, Jeff brings 48 years of experience and Alex 38 years.

We continue to work together to discuss and plan every job, and we are onsite daily, working alongside our crew. Dan Bishop has been with us for 10 years, Joe Apice for four years. It’s a small, tight team focused on quality over quantity. Years ago we experimented with scaling up, but we learned that keeping things manageable allows us to maintain the high quality our customers expect.

After more than 30 years of painting in the Portland area

We take pride in our ability to produce high quality work in both residential and commercial projects. Our exterior repaints transform both older and contemporary homes. We pay attention to prep work and details. Our interior projects bring new colors and atmospheres to homes, as well as offices and commercial spaces. We also handle cabinet refinishing, plaster repair, and wallpaper removal.

We’ve worked in nearly every Portland neighborhood – Northwest 23rd Avenue, Laurelhurst, Sellwood, the Pearl District. Hillsdale, Irvington, Lake Oswego, Alameda, Hawthorne, Goose Hollow, West Linn, Woodstock, St. John’s, the West Hills, Beaverton, Gresham – and beyond.

90% of our business comes from word-of-mouth referrals, and that’s because we value taking good care of our clients. We’ve painted buildings for Inner City Properties multiple times over 30 years. We work with Birdsmouth Construction, Charlie Metcalf Construction & Design, and builders who’ve trusted us for decades. Whether we’ve painted multiple buildings or simply a kitchen, each client’s needs and preferences are important to us.

Those relationships are built on clear communication, accurate estimates, showing up when promised, and doing the little things that matter—like noticing issues beyond just the paint and either addressing them ourselves or referring tradespeople in our network.

We don’t do high-pressure sales or large upfront deposits. Just accurate estimates based on 30 years of experience. We emphasize prep work because that’s what creates longevity. We use quality materials matched to each project—sometimes different products from different suppliers on the same job because we know what works best.

We stand behind our work. Within a year, we’ll come back and touch up anything. Beyond that, if there’s an issue, call us. If it’s on us, we’ll make it right.
