A Little About Us
Since 1994, Jeff Gibson and Alex Fish have been providing painting services in the Portland area as G&F Painting. Jeff and Alex had over 20 years combined experience when they met in the early 90’s while working for the same company. When their employer closed shop, they took the opportunity to create their own business. They worked essentially as a two-man operation for the next 12 years.
In 2005, after a few seasons of being offered more work than they could handle, they began to hire painters to help in the busy summer months. For a few years, they operated with “bigger is better” as a business model, before deciding that maintaining a small workforce better enabled them to deliver the quality and responsiveness that their repeat customers had come to expect.
In 2015 Dan Bishop joined the team, and since then has become an integral part of the operation, running crews and managing jobs.
Today, Jeff and Alex work together to discuss and plan every job, and one or both are on each job daily. There are seasonal personnel changes to accommodate the busier times of the year, but with a couple of consistent and reliable team members, they are able to produce work that the whole team is proud of and that customers appreciate.

How far in advance should I schedule my paint job? Is there a difference between interior and exterior projects?
As a small business, our exterior painting schedule fills up quickly—especially during peak seasons. We recommend booking exterior projects at least 6 months in advance. For interior work, especially during the winter, we often have more flexibility and can usually accommodate shorter notice.
Will the person who gives me the estimate also be working on my project?
Yes! Jeff or Alex (or sometimes both) will meet with you to discuss your project and provide an estimate. One or both of them are typically present on-site each day to ensure your job runs smoothly.
If my commercial project requires permits, will G&F handle them?
Absolutely. If your painting project requires any permits or licenses, G&F will take care of obtaining them for you.
Can painting be done while my restaurant or business remains open?
In most cases, yes. We work closely with business owners to create a schedule and workflow that allows your business to continue operating while we complete the painting.
Can G&F help with color and product selection?
We’re happy to recommend products that will work best for your needs, and we’re also glad to use your preferred brands. We offer color matching and can advise on basic color choices. For more in-depth color planning, we can connect you with a professional designer.
My project may need some repairs in addition to painting. Can G&F handle this?
Yes, we provide sheetrock and plaster repair, light carpentry, and dry rot repair. For larger or more specialized repairs, we have a trusted network of craftsmen we can refer to.
